Starfire is a legacy codename given to multiple characters in the DC Universe.
- The first to take up the name was the Russian superhero Leonid Kovar. Leonid Kovar's father, Konstantin Kovar, was an archaeologist, and when the two investigated a spaceship that had crashed into the Yenesi River, the ship exploded. It imbued Leonid with energy, and gave him powers of super strength, speed, flight, and pyrokinesis. Being a Russian patriot who believed in socialism, he offered his services to his country and became the first official Russian superhero, taking the name Starfire.
- The second to take the name was a crimelord, Starfire, with global-conquering aspirations. She was an enemy of Supergirl.
- The third person to take the name was an alien resistance fighter, Starfire, who with her small band of rebels, she fights the Mygorg and the Lightning Lords on a far-off world.
- The fourth person to take the name, as well as the most famous holder of the name, is Koriand'r. The name was bequeathed to her by Leonid Kovar, the first Starfire. She is an alien superhero with powers of flight and energy projection. Born a princess on the planet Tamaran, she escaped execution at the hands of her older sister Blackfire and traveled to Earth. Meeting the Teen Titans, she became a charter member and stayed with the team for most of her career. Her culture's different standards of intimacy cause her to be extremely open and sexually liberated by human standards. She has also been a member of the Justice League, Outlaws, Outsiders, and R.E.B.E.L.S..
The codename of Starfire, along with the creation of Leonid Kovar, was created by Len Wein and Marv Wolfman, first appearing in Teen Titans #18 (1968).
The Koriand'r interpretation of the title was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, first appearing in DC Comics Presents #26 (1980).
