Lightray is a member of the New Gods and a great warrior. Born as Solis he renamed himself after discovering he had great solar energy powers. He is the closest friend of the dog of war Orion, and Lightray's lighthearted attitude provides contrast to his grim ways. They serve Highfather of New Genesis, and fight together against the evils of Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips. He has also been a member of the Justice League.

Lightray was created by Jack Kirby as part of his Fourth World epic saga and first appeared in New Gods #1. (1971)
