The Bookworm is a name used by several characters in the DC Universe. The most prominent is an enemy to Batman in the live action 1960s TV series Batman. This version of the Bookworm was a super-criminal obsessed with books, who would often quote great literature. He was revamped for the Prime Earth continuity as Gotham Academy antagonist A.S. Scarlet.

The Bookworm was created by William Dozier, Larry Peerce, and Hendrik Vollaerts, originally portrayed by Roddy McDowall in the Batman episode The Bookworm Turns (1966). He was first adapted into the mainstream DC Universe by Becky Cloonan, Brenden Fletcher and Karl Kerschl in Gotham Academy #2 (2015).
