Melody Case is a scientist at Kord Industries and a love interest of Ted Kord.

Melody Case and Ted Kord were a couple, despite Melody working as a scientist for Kord Industries. Ted asked her to marry him many times, but she rejected him each time, stating that what they had was fun, and would become a responsibility, and she needed fun more than responsibility.[1] Melody later represented Kord at the Consumer Trade Show that was held hostage by The Calculator.[2] Later, after saving the life of a young woman who tried to steal her purse, Melody is tased by mysterious men who take the barely alive young woman away.[3] Melody begins sensing that Ted is keeping secrets from her[4], despite his reassurances.[5] Upon Ted's return from a Blue Beetle mission with the Titans, Melody yells at Ted for not taking responsibility for his company.[6] She finds a proposal in the mountain of paperwork Ted left behind, and meets with an employee named Randy Truman.[7] After a confrontation with Ted, Melody decides to make Truman her assistant. Searching for Jeremiah Duncan, she is informed that he has disappeared as well.[8] Melody confronts Randy over his whereabouts the day before, during Overthrow's attack, but he is evasive and walks away.[9] Ted's absences begin to grate on Melody, who resolves to find someone else to run the company. After Ted is absent for 12 hours, she calls someone to do just that.[10] Upon Ted's return, Melody makes it clear they are no longer a couple. She later has dinner with Randy Truman.[11] Days later, she is surprised to see Ted working, though he quickly leaves as he has been dosed with a chemical by the Madmen that makes it seem to him everyone has their leader Fleeter's face. Melody later welcomes a mysterious man into her office, later revealed to be Ted's father, Thomas Kord.[12] Melody confronts Ted about his absences (due to his dual identity) and explains that this is why she called in his father. She next decides to speak to Randy Truman, and finds out he is married. He chases after her, and she fires him. The building begins to shake as it is torn apart by Carapax the Indestructible Man. They evacuate and the building collapses. Melody attempts to reconcile with Ted, who leaves her, his father and Chicago.[13]
