Maria Kyle was the wife of Brian Kyle and the mother of Maggie and Selina Kyle, whose death led to her becoming a thief and vigilante known as Catwoman. In most continuities, her abusive husband led her to commit suicide. In others, she had Selina with the gangster Carmine Falcone, who killed her afterwards. In any case, her death made Selina cold and protective, and inspired her to become a criminal as an adult.

She was erased from mainstream continuity during The New 52 reboot, although Maria Kyle was restored into existence as Catwoman's mother following the events of the DC Rebirth relaunch.

Maria Kyle was created by Bronwyn Carlton and Staz Johnson, first appearing in Catwoman (Volume 2) #81. (2000)
