The Alpha Effect, commonly known as the Energy of Creation, is a fundamental force of the Greater Omniverse born from The Source and used by The Hands to birth life within multiverses and universes across the Void. The so-called Omega Effect is a dark reflection to the Alpha Effect.
History
Origins
At the very beginning, The Source of All Existence was born alongside the Greater Omniverse. The Source began spawning "children," like The Hands, and infused them with its Alpha Energy, turning them into Cosmic Beings. The Source sent them to create life across the Omniverse, so these so-called "Hands" began using reflections– later known as the Seven Positive Forces– of the Source Energy to populate the Abyssal Void with "Creations," which were imbued with immense amounts of Alpha Force.
At the same time, an obscure version of the Alpha Effect, known as Omega Sanction or Omega Effect, was born within the Greater Omniverse. This Omega Force led to the creation of sentient energy cores, which later came to be known as Heart of Apokolips– from the name of the most famous center of Omega Energy.

Creation of the DC Multiverse
Twenty billion years ago, the Source sent one of her Hands, the mischevious Perpetua, to create a new multiverse within the Void. After the Source gifted her its Cosmic energy, Perpetua imbued its newly-born Creation– the "original" Multiverse– with the Source's "Positive" side, but also infused his Creation dark reflections of this Cosmic power, known as Seven Dark Forces.[4]
The Hand planned to use his newly-born Creation to take on the Source itself by creating a race of raging creatures– imbued with her Cosmic powers– and use them to fight the Source and her sister Hands for all Eternity. Several billion years later, Perpetua's plan was crashed by her sons, who summoned a majestic Alpha Force-powered being, the Cosmic Raptor, that sealed her away and recreated the Multiverse with the Seven Positive Forces.[4]
Unbeknownst to her, this particular universe, in which Perpetua found out the secret of her Apex Predators, was actually a sentient reality– a Metaverse–[5] centered around the presence of an Alpha Effect-powered being. On Planet Earth– the greatest source of Alpha Energy in the entire Creation– this figure will be eventually known as Superman.[1]

Pre-Crisis
In the new confuration of the Multiverse, the Source spread its Energy across reality and birthed a race of Higher Beings, known as Old Gods, within the so-called GodWorld. However, the Old Gods were fierce and primeval beings, who eventually waged war on each other, leading to their Ragnarok.
From the destruction of GodWorld,[6] the essence of the Source became an immense wave of energy that swept across Creation for 40000 years and left a "seed of divinity" into whatever it touched. This eventually led to the birth of the Pantheon of Gods.[7]
At the same time, The Source spawned the New Gods– each one of them powered with different amount of Alpha Energy– leading to the rise of two realms– the obscure Apokolips and the more-lighted New Genesis– the so-called Fourth World.[6]

Notes
- The Alpha Effect has been been featured since the Silver Age in Fourth World stories, beginning with New Gods #1, as the limitless power of The Source of All Existence. In the Pre-Flashpoint continuity, the Energy of Creation eventually made its first full appearance in Swamp Thing (Volume 2) #62. After the events of Flashpoint, the Energy of Creation was reintroduced through the "Seven Forces of the Universe" in Justice League (Volume 4) #1, and referred to as "Connective Energy" in Dark Nights: Death Metal #1.
- According to Time Trapper, Alpha Effect and Omega Effect are actually the primal sources of energy in the Greater Omniverse– directly born from The Source of All Existence.[1] His words imply that all the Forces of Justice in the Multiverse, like the Seven Positive Forces or the God-Aspects of Olgrun, are powered up by Alpha Force at their core.
- Time Trapper also confirmed that Superman's energy of Hope– central to the Metaverse[5]– is actually powered up by Alpha Effect.[1] During the Justice/Doom War, his energy of Hope was also linked to the Faithfulness of the Seven Positive Forces.[citation needed]
Trivia
- As a consequence of his Ascension to Godhood,[17] John Stewart's Green Lantern Ring is powered up by Source Energy. This also allows the Emerald Knight to journey into the Greater Omniverse.[10]
